In Reply To: you sound like you are in the exact situation my boyfriend was 2 months ago. he hated his job at a web consulting company and wanted to get into finance. he talked about looking for a new job, but it was hard, having a good paying job to get really seriously motivated (regardless of how much you hate it). then, fortunately (or unfortunately), he was laid off along with much of the office from the web company. immediately, he was much happier, even without a job. but because he didnt have a job, he had significantly more motivation to look for a new job. he got a few offers within a month or so. i agree the market sucks, but i think there is still plenty of jobs for talented people. about switching to finance, you might leverage off your it knowledge to get your foot in financial institutions, where it will be easier to switch later on. i know this might be a roundabout way, but might be worth considering, especially given the current economic climate (and its effect on the financial industry).
Message: Thanks a lot for the advice, good to see this thread still sees a little action. To anyone curious (nobody) I am actually giving my two weeks notice tomorrow...and going out after work and partying my face off! I think it would be much easier having 6 hours a day to try and find a job; and from home, not surrounded by coworkers no less. This job honestly affects my overall wellbeing, it has made me a somewhat unhappy kid unfortunately. Quitting is the right thing. Also, I'll easily be able to use this story to my advantage in future interviews. And luckily, I've got some money saved for a rainy day. I could last the summer without finding a job, though I'll rpobably bartend at nights for some dough. Thanks a lot, I hope my breif story can help out some others.
