Switch to consulting without MBA |

It probably wouldn't be worth it. |

I share the curiosity of 'Well Said'. I had a family member work for them in the software consulting field, without any computer experience. He never worked in the same town where he lived. Although it was great experience for him, he left after attaining solid skills, due to the commuting situation (at one point he was living in Houston and flying home to his wife in Wisconsin on the weekends).
I am trying to transition to the private sector and am curious about Accenture. My background is in corrections (11 yrs.) with some formal training/teaching experience. I have a BS in Criminal Justice. Knowing that they hired my relative without computer experience (although he did have a MBA) piques my curiosity regarding what type of people they are looking for. Any information you have would be greatly appreciated. |

This is obviously my opinion and I am not a recruiter, but I have seen enough experienced hires come in and go out to speak on the topic.
With your background, you would probably have to come in as an analyst, being that you don't have industry experience or consulting experience.
I have seen many experienced hires come in an become unhappy because there are put in a position to have to answer to others, where they were running whole division before they traded industries, and also, the salary was not what they had expected. The culture of consulting is quite a shock to those who have not grown up in it.
It is very fast paced and you have to get in where you fit in. There in not much time for small talk and making people feel at home. Although we are trying to be better about that, especially for experienced hires.
I hope this helps.
Just a question...why not teach?
