My wife was a doctor and hated it. She has a PhD in Immunology from UChicago and an MD from NYU, and made the switch to working as an independent consultant to biotech & pharmaceutical companies, after 5 years of practice. It turned out that being a doctor can be miserable. Now she works half the hours, and pulls in over $350K per year. And the 280K in student loans she had to take out are finally gone!
