In Reply To: currently product controller at a top tier ibank - want to move to equity research. I checked out some research job postings but they all want someone with modelling skills. My skills don't cross over (3 years of exp after undergrad school - 1 as product contoller and 2 as auditor at big 4) - how should i position myself to best get a shot at an interview? I'm taking the CFA in June. Any advice would be appreciated.
Message: You need to demonstrate and highlight your strong accounting skills. Especially good if you have some forensic accounting. Will give you an edge in financial statement analysis. ALthough if you want my opinion, sell-side research is a dead end career and most are eager to go buy-side. If you want to study stocks you might as well get an MBA and then go buy-side. Because the buy-side has very little respect for sell-side research.
