HI,
Recently i have become interested in finance. Would like to make a career change into derivative analysis, where quantative, analytical and programming skills are required.
I am 31. Have 7 years of solid IT experience ( programmer, developer, architect positions). A BS and MS in Engineering. Currently applying for a MS in 'Applied mathmetics in Finance' in NYU, part-time.
I would like to get some suggestions, as to how hard will it be to break into financial engineering positions ( derivative analyst, risk management etc) after i graduate. I will be 34, will have almost 9 years of IT handson and management experience with a very well known Integration company. Or anything else or addition to, I should try to accomplish to achieve this goal ( i.e. Will CFA help ?) |

Why do you want to make the shift? why should a finance company pick YOU over guys who have FINANCE experience?
Im not trying to bog you down, just simply trying to help you think through what you should know you have to offer.
