Got Salary question |

My screener asked what salary range I had in mind. Interview books will tell you to keep quiet, but the firm doesn't want to organize a half-day of interviews with LvIV's, V's, and the partner, only to find out later that the candidate is way out of line on salary expectations. Your call whether to answer, but expect a hard sell by the HR person, and the risk of getting passed over because a candidate with a better resume answered the question. Lesson1: know what the market will pay for your skills. Lesson2: HR knows the market better than you. Opinion: people who write books are out of touch with how things really work. My $0.02. You'll get thru it, I did. Good luck!! |

I think I need a coach through this process.
The Recruiter said that the Principal had wanted some questions answered and after I answered them, she would let me know if they wanted to interview me or would pass me along to another group.
She asked me: 1. Why I was leaving my company 2. When I could start 3. What I currently make 4. Where I wanted to work
My answers 1. Want to work in govent sector 2. Immediately, but w/ 2 weeks for current employer 3. What's the salary range for the position? 4. DC area
She said that she would let the principal know my answers and if the principal wanted to pass me along to another group or speak with me, I would hear from them to set up an interview
How long should I give them? It doesn't sound like she was that enthusiastic (i.e. wouldn't she offer an interview right away?)
