Ahhh...I see - thanks for the clarification.
Would you mind revealing what your position is (ie: Associate, Sr. Assoc) and where you started at Booz?
(I dont mean to pry and would completely understand If you would prefer not to reveal that info.)
Also, Boozer2005 indicated previously that the system is fair and transparent - would you agree with his/her assessment? Do you feel the mentoring system is an effective means of facilitating the success of BAH employees?
Finally, at least for now :), besides long hours etc., what, in your opinion, are some of the negative things about working for BAH?
Thanks again for letting me "pick" your brain - it is my habit to do as much research on my own before diving in and you've been incredibly helpful.

Would prefer not to reveal my current position - I started as an SC.
On the system - no system is perfect, but overall I think Booz's is definitely fair and transparent, particulary the appraisal system, on which we go to great lengths to make fair and rigorous. On mentoring, overall it can be very effective, but 1) it depends on you and 2) it depends on the mentors you choose. Mentors are not there to cover your ass (except in exceptional circumstances) or get you the sweet assignments - they are there to help you guide and develop your career. You often need to be proactive to get the most from your mentors, but that is largely becasue they will be very very busy people. Note also that when you first join, you will be assigned a mentor (or two), but if it is not working out for some reason, it is paerfectly acceptable to find and request another mentor.
On the negative things besides long hours (very very long sometimes) - I think it is the inconsistency of working styles and expectations, even within an office, e.g. different partners have very different ways of working - some always provide feedback at the last minute and change their minds on the deck at 11 PM. Others are more organised and less prone to wavering. No matter how much the system tries remove big inconsistencies, we are dealing with people so they will always remain to some extent. The bottom line is that it is a great firm with some stellar people. If you get a great team/partner, nothing beats it, but if you get a bad team/partner, it can be pretty unpleasant for the project duration.
Resilience is key.
Good luck!
