I would discount the magazine rankings, as they routinely fail to disaggregate WCB and WTB respondents. If you have access, check out the New York office survey (Fall 2005) for more accurate data on WCB morale. Hint: it's the pits.
Bottom line, WCB - intellectually challenging work, but a deathmarch designed to enrich a greedy base of partners. Not the place for those seeking W/L balance. |

Name one great firm where this is not the case! All dominant firms in their field expect you to work hard. GE execs work 100+ hrs/week. If you want w/l balance, go into retail or gov't.
This is definitely not unique in MC! Morale is the pits at most strat-based MC firms. But CB morale, i think, is better (and def no worse) than other firms -- bain, bcg, and certainly mck.
