so if someone joins one of these functional teams (say operations) as a Sr.Consultant, will it be possible to get aligned to a domain(say Consumer Goods) down the road when its time to become an Associate/Sr Associate without having an MBA ?
Also, how much will salaries vary between these functional and domain groups ?

It is highly unlikely that you could migrate to a domain team such as Consumer Goods without an MBA (or other advanced degree) from a top school.
The salary issue really depends upon which career path you are on. On average, staff on a Strategy career track will earn more than staff on a Design or Transformation track, but that doesn't preclude some staff on Design or Transformation from making the same or more than staff on a Strategy track.
