There really isn't a big market for strategy consulting anymore. Yes, there are lots oflittle projects here and there, but the market has shifted mostly to large scale restructing projects.
So if you want to do "pure" strategy, you will almost certainly need an MBA from a top 10 school. You will also need very deep skills in economics and finance.
Frankly, I wouldn't look to any of the companies you mention (yes, including BAH) as strong brands in strategy. You should try to work for Monitor, Marrakon, or a similar boutique company first. |

True, it's hard to define "strategy" consulting. But from a top-3 bschool and f500 perspective, let me tell you that m/b/b/bah have much more branding leverage than monitor and marakon. it makes no sense to say that there is little strat consulting anymore then advise you to go to monitor and marakon! m/b/b/b are diversified, strong firms thay can weather well dips in the economy. not so w/ marakon and monitor.
curious: why the fascination w/ m/b/b? trust me -- that ranking is confined to bschools and the vault board. in the real world (f500), that ranking doesn't exist.
