In Reply To: I checked with my mother-in-law, who is an H/R professional, and she was able to give me some good tips/. An employer has to reimburse you for vacation time earned and not taken yet. Note that this doesn't necessarily apply to roll-over days. Also, if you quit early in the year, you probably haven't earned many vacation days yet, so don't expect much there. If you have days earned, take them off before submitting the resignation - the point will become clear in a moment. When you submit your resignation, upon returning from your vacation, make sure you a) submit it in writing, and b) indicate that you are ready and willing to work for the next two weeks. The company is under no obligation to pay you for those two weeks, but they most likely will. (This encourages other employees to also resign in an orderly fashion and not just skip out the door on a moment's notice) However, you have to "offer" to stay for the next two weeks, they won't request it. Here's the catch: If you have vacation time left in the "balance", they will deduct this from the two weeks of notice period. Also, if you've taken more vacation time than you're earned so far in the year, that too will be taken off the notice period payout. So, work it out nicely like this: * Move your stuff home little by little - you may not have much time to get books or manuals or lecture notes later * Take your vacation days, make up some emergency somewhere and relax for a few days * If you're paid bi-weekly, then return on a payday morning and submit your resignation (You will be out of the building by lunch) * Offer to stay for the two weeks of notice period (which the company asks for in the employment agreement) * Work with the exit interviewers, be honest but fair and enjoy the fresh air as you leave BBG behind you. As for the bonus, it didn't matter to me that much in the end, but if I had close to my EEC payout date, I would have waited until everything hit my bank account and then executed the plan. Best of luck! g2p
