For me in the IT sector, things are once again much better after some years where it was meager. Still, many companies appear to have learned from the bubble days of 2000 and are much more thorough when hiring. If you're qualified, tho, that won't worry you at all.
Use the tools available (Monster et al) and take your time. Create good resumes and cover letters and be ready for the phone calls to come in spurts. Don't be afraid to say no to the first few non-matches, take your time and wait for the right job. It's there. And it will find you the very same second you find it. And you'll both know it.
