This one will be a shocker to all my fans here, but I was really blown away by the whole Google thing. That would be a really cool project to be on.
As I thought about it though, the whole BE-Google thing is more of a 'hail mary' pass by BE. One that I don't think will score a touchdown.
First off, there has been no rumblings on this board of a pilot project using Google technologies to fix Inside BearingPoint. Unless it's changed and nobody has mentioned it. Far more likely nobody even uses it. Wouldn't that be a great PR tool to actually use the technology you're pimping? Of course with the whole OneGlobe fiasco, BE might not want to repeat it's mistakes.
Secondly, although it would be a great project/group to be in. I can see it being filled with all the no-talent-yes-men and ass munchers. The MD's and other managers in this group are going to have over inflated egos about being involved with this big deal. In classic BE style they'll include their followers and go light on true talent.
One interesting thing to notice is that the stock really hasn't moved much from this news. There's still that horrible EPS, and the promise that there's a big loss in 2005. Whats also interesting is that the on Yahoo Finance, Google 'news' items only mention the iniative once. The BE board has it a few times. Google is a juggernaut, this is a small investment for them. To BE however this is a big deal.
Finally, I notice that all this 'feel good about Google' that BE is giving to it's employees is to get their attention off of the 0% bonus and raises for the rank and file staff. Interesting that the Google notice came out soon after the announcement of the non raises.
Although this BE-Google thing is interesting and has potential, in true BE style it will fail.
