Message: Per diems are only for those who travel and want to make a sacrifice to be away their families every week. The real raise needs to be at the per annum salary compensation, not these extra perks we get as a part of travelling. I hear where you are going with this but I got one more thing to tell you - unless you try, you can't save too much to warrant for a raise. And even if we get an increase in the per diem, it's the Federal Government increasing the standard ratess for these that directly impacts the increase we get, not BE so to speak. My whole point is that I've a 2 year old son that I have not had much time to spend with due to the weekly travels. Coincidentally he was born right at the time I joined BE. So I've not had any valuable interaction time with him whatsoever. And now given that he is 2 years old already, in another two years or so he'll be going to preschool. I don't know about you all out on this board but I value time with my family. And working with BE has its times when it interferes here. And what makes it worse is that BE themselves won't do anything on the compensation end to recognize what kind of sacrifice I'd go through for them. That said, there has to come a time when I have to place my foot down. If it involves getting local engagements, then that's the way I'll have to do it.
