In Reply To: Hi all, I received an offer for an MA position in PS in Atlanta GA. The offer is for 45k and to be honest, I was expecting more. I'm not sure if I am being unreasonable or if their offer is fair. I am trying to negotiate and hope to get at least 50k. I have a Master's in Econ but no really relevant work experience. Do you think the offer is in line with what I should be getting? Any advice is appreciated.
Message: my practice pays as little as 43k and as high as 53k for an MA. Honestly, without experience or knowing someone within who will go to bat for you, it's highly unlikely that they'll budge. But you could try the 'ole, "i was thinking more along the lines of 50k" line and see what they come back with. The truth is, in my opinion, the MA in econ is not valued here, especially at the MA level. If you wanted to do consulting you could have skipped the 2 years you spent in grad school and just worked and by now you could be at 60k. Just my .02
