For corporate items such as performance management, raises, and who you can bitch to.
Staffing is handled by a resource manager in your sector. Some areas have a few, some just have one person to handle internal staffing needs...
Your MD will generally help (or do it entirely) you find a new gig or more work if you need it and arent chargeable to him/her. However, if you are chargeable to them, it is very difficult to make a move.

Atleast you have someone called "Your MD". That's a big advantage having experienced the other end of the spectrum.
