In Reply To: It's that time of year. After I super duper bonuses ($200) it's time for promotions. After my review, I've been told by my MD to anticipate being "bumped" to the next level. I'm curious as to what I can expect. Here's the bio: - Straight out of undergrad, to BE, based in CA. Degree in Business with emphasis in Database Management Systems. Offered MA position at $47K. - Promoted within 5 months to SMA at $48K - 92% chargeability. Complete compliance. EE on past engagement review nd year-end review. What can I expect? After reading past posts, I think I was ($1K). Is it realistic to assume that BE will remain competitive, or am I better off taking this title and heading for greener pastures with other firms? On another note, its a shame perusing posts, that MDs aren't paying more attention to the feedback being presented. All this talk of employee retention and attempts to halt the increasing attrition rate of BE employees, but ZERO incentives for employees to stick around. Hmph. Thanks in advance.
Message: As an SMA or junior Consultant, you'd be making a lateral move or maybe a jump to Sr Consultant at best. This would probably look promising in the short term, but you'd be leaving a lot on the table. Stick it out here (trust me, having been at other Big 5 Consulting firms, BE is no worse off) and look to make the switch once you've made Sr Consultant when you can hopefully jump to a Manager position. Moving around at this point will nullify most of your career network, which is what will continue to move you along the ladder in your later years.
