During a phone interview with the Real Estate I-banking group I was asked to describe how depreciation affects the four financial statements of a company. Can anyone share examples of technical questions they've had - doesn't need to be group specific. |

here's a few questions...i'm dictating this as my friend tells me. (he interviewed with same group 3 weeks ago - RE IB @ BAS).
one brainteaser...you have three light switches in one room, one of which controls a light in an adjacent room... (two rooms -just to reiterate) room one has the controls to the light in the other room , you are in the room with the switches. you cant see the light bulb in the other room...you have to determine which light switch controls the bulb in the other room. you can open the door of the other room just once to see the bulb..and you can mess with the switches in the other room as much as you want.
how do you determine which switch controls the bulb.
you can assume all of the lights swithes are in an off position and the light is currently off.
heres the answer....flip two of the three switches on...wait a half hour....turn one of the switches off and go check the room....if the light bulb is on, then you know the switch currenly in the on position is the one that controls it...(here's the tricky part - feel the light bulb...if its hot..then you know the light switch controlling it is the one of the two that you turned back off before you entered the room. If the light bulb is off..the switch controlling it is the third one you didn't touch at all..
only reason why i'm writing this is because you'd probably land the job if you got this one right...my buddy already got an offer so theres no chance of you beating him out for the job.
