In Reply To: They want to hear that you know what you want (#2 Why IB?) and know why you want to work with their particular firm (#3 Why BofA or whoever?). As opposed to: "My four year party in college just ended and now I suppose I have to get a full time job and one job is just about the same as another." For point #2, you can look at various IB??s career websites to get some ideas. Morgan Stanley, JP Morgan and others parse their lines of business and positions therein along with desired candidate characteristics. They also give tips for interviews. If I recall MS has a ??test?? on theirs that tells you where (they think) you fit in their firm. The JPMC site has a good description/theoretical framework for the difference between traders and non traders in IB. Good stuff on the personal characteristics. For #3, check a firm's annual reports and website for a first look. Modesty is not a big commodity in IB. Other things are industry surveys like the Euromoney one on A&WM. Hopefully your placement office has insights/tips as well as access to various business sources (Thompson Financial, Dealogic, IFR, etc etc) and publications. Try your B school placement office and libary for this stuff. Clearly, you're not writing a thesis here but this info will be useful for the interview. Anything more on this topic just post again.
Message: This might be late but I cannot find the theoretical framework in the JPMC site. Any idea where it is? Thanks, clegg p.s. a little busy with this right now, will reply to your message in a couple of days
