I??m an engineering major who gave the summer intern track with Bain a shot, and was told no after the second round of interviews. The feedback I got was that I had done a good job on my interviews, but there were just a limited number of spots, and I should reapply for fulltime in the fall. How serious is that suggestion? Party line suggestion, or do they actually want to see me on the interview loop again? For some tech firms, which I??m more familiar with, being passed over for an intern position carries the polite implication that they??re also not interested in seeing you for full time interviews; sort of a ??don??t call us we??ll call you if we want to see you again?? situation. Is this not the case with Bain? Should I re-apply of my own volition, or will they let me know if they're interested in talking with me in the fall?
(Also, side note, I think I spy a concatenation one of my first round interviewers name on the board ;) )

Opposite at Bain than at the tech companies. If they make 10 intern offers, they'll make 30 FT offers. The first people on the list for FT interviews are those who did well in intern interviews. Unless you did something to seriously embarass yourself, you should absolutely stay in touch and reapply. The imperative falls on you to send in your application this fall; they'll be happy to see you.
