If you get any #&%@ brainteasers or guesstimates in a Bain interview, please report the interviewer to Recruiting. Brainteasers have no bearing on how well you'll do as a consultant. They're used by lazy interviewers who aren't really interested in quality recruiting. Bain's policy is to use a combination of fit and case interviewers; no brainteasers, no guesstimates unless in connection with a case.
The difference can sometimes be a bit slim: you won't be asked how many ping pong balls fit into a 747, but you might do a case and find that you need to figure out how much it costs to fly a 747 from Kennedy to Heathrow. |

Price of one way ticket per passager from NY to London ~= 200 dollars
# Sits in 747 ~= 500
Break even point capacity for the airline ~= 60%
200 x 500 x .60 = 60,000 dollars (cost of flying from NY to London)
