In Reply To: Nope, i'm not a manager either. And if i were trying to make the manager promotion, I wouldn't spending so much time here. It sounds like there's a lot of variation in the MBA package from NA to Europe, and perhaps even among the European offices. When I last discussed the packages with a colleague in Europe, it sounded like he would get the same package offered in North America. But what you describe is very different. The original poster is wise to ask this question to HR if it's a concern. Also ask how long of a commitment is required to earn-back your sponsorship. In the US, it's a 2-year commitment, but this too might vary from office-to-office.
Message: For those interested, I just spoke with HR in Paris, and there is no living allowance during the MBA from this office (too bad for me ;-)). The package is made of full tuition reimbursement and an extra for the MBA related expenses such as books. If you commit to return to Bain from the beginning of your 2-year MBA, the 2-year tuitions are covered. If you decide to wait until year 2 to announce your return to the firm, only the second year will be covered. Even if I had known that before, I would have still been willing to apply to Paris since this is the city I want to live in, but for the ones who are flexible at the beginning of their careers, it is a shame that there is such a difference between the offices policies and that there is no way to know that from the beginning. One extra year of salary for the one who goes to Munich instead of Paris could be an important factor in one's decision, don't you think?
