To West Carolina:
I enjoyed that link very much. I believe your analysis of me is slightly askew, not because you??re not a reasonable person, but because of a lack of information. For example, my parents are dead, I have no siblings; I've lived in Michigan, Maine, Florida, North Carolina, and Italy. There is no place that is exactly "home" for me. I view the world as my home. I have a handful of close friends and relatives which will always be a part of my life no matter where I go. That's the way it has always been and will continue to be. I'm not going to settle down in one place at this point in my life because I have A friend here or A relative there. In short, I am not ??abandoning?? anything.
I value a few, simple things:
- Money
- Education (Want HBS MBA or other graduate degree)
- Physical fitness
- Travel (Living in or visiting other countries and learning about them. History is my hobby)
Of course there are plenty of other things that matter to me but these four things are my goals, and usually I group them into three for simplicities?? sake since my travels are educational as much as anything else. I would never move 10,000 miles to abandon friends, family, and a cheery-happy life for a corporation. I will, however, move to another country because that is in fact what I want to do and plan to do, regardless. I understand Bain may not be the god-send it seems. Still, it remains the company I want to work for.
I'm not sure what the purpose of my life is but I absolutely know what I want out of my life.
To the other fellow:
I prefer Bain because of its size, its focus on strategy and its generalist approach. I like its reputation among top business schools and employees who continually rate it as one of the best places to work. It has offices in the countries I??d like to work in and, most importantly, encourages people to spend time abroad. The career progression: 2 yrs. AC, 1 yr. SAC, then MBA, fits in with my timeline. I appreciate that Bain looks to hire entrepreneurial types. I am one of them. (My logistics business in Florida does about 1.2m in sales.) The sense of community Banies appear to share is attractive. As generalists, I like the flexibility in projects and varied aspects of the company such as the opportunity to work in private equity as well. Et cetera.
Companies such as A.T. Kearny and other competitors of Bain also look like great places to work but in most cases the total picture favours Bain. That is, of course, a personal preference based on the information available to me.
Thanks again for you comments!

You sound like a pretty straightforward guy. You value money, education, fitness and travel. These are all good values but they sound little too 'inner-centric' to me. Think about how you can become positive impact/force to others and society in general. Personally, I would not be too impressed with someone who only thinks of his own self-interests for his life's goals.
If you think ATK is in line with Bain, you need to do little bit more homework on MC firms. ATK is bulimic now??-hopefully, they can rebound back to their previous glory days but that will be *very* difficult.
All the things that you liked about Bain in your ??thank you?? post are very general things. M/B/B/Booz and the other 5 or so mgnt consulting firms all share them. I do agree that Bain has more of an entrepreneurial bend compared to other MCs. As I said before, they are really into 'result driven'-ness. As an outsider, I personally think it's marketing jingle. I'm sure Bainies would differ on that.
If you don??t get an interview invitation from top MC firms, don??t feel too bad. BA/AC positions are by far one of the most coveted and competitive amongst undergrads. They are even more difficult when compared to full consultant positions after MBA. Also, if you do get invitation, you really need to prepare for the case interview part. You also need to spend lot of *hours* on polishing behavioral/fit part.
