The person should have found out the person's name that told her not to report in on Monday. Maybe this person was a friend of the previous front desk receptionist who just happened to take her call. I would have done some investigation and called the people I had originally been in contact with during the interview process. This scenario certainly has a trace of oddity to it which justifies some looking into if she really wanted the job.
