This is a warning from someone that has dual degrees in Chemical Engineering an a Management Degree from Wharton.
Keep in mind I did do my research and checked Vault prior to even going to Ameriprise for a quote "Interview".
My story begins . . .I spoke with an Ameriprise HR person for well over an hour over the phone convincing me that I would be interviewing for a corporate professional position within financial services. I checked to make sure they were reading my resume and could clearly see my background as mentioned before along with salry demands. Second they swayed me to come in an inteview and i would not be dissapointed. They stated they could meet my salary and compensation demands.
I went to Owings Mills, MD this morning (2.24.2006) for their 9:30 AM interview slot. Little did I know their HR people put me in with the financial advisor "Career Presentation" Group and were demanding me to take a math test. It turns out their are no corporate professional positions, it was just a ploy to get as many people there as possible.
As you can imagine I stepped out of the room and asked to speak with the lady from HR and a manager about my phone conversation and why I was here. It turns out Amerprise lies to get anyone they can to hear their talk. Their senior VP had me escorted from the building, becuase I cried false advertising and misleading of people. Then after i was ridculed by the same HR person that convinved me to come in I was then further laughed at by staff that was watching this go on. It was kind of like watching a sick joke that everyone was inon but you.
I have since reported the individuals involved with Ameriprise Corporate and have spread the word throughout Upenn.
Be warned if you get reeled into this scam. I went purely on speculation as an engineer and manager looking for some information about the financial services sector. You will not find it there.
