I am having trouble getting my first PR job. I have a BA in communications, emphasis in PR. I've had three internships during college, a Media Relations Assistant for a county transportation company, an intern at a privately owned PR firm, and a sales position at Enterprise Rent-A-Car. (I also work full time throughout college as a 911 dispatcher and as a police dispatcher).
I sat on a committee (voluntarily) to help plan a non profit organization's annual fundraising race event being in charge of volunteers. (I am also volunteering on this committee again for this year.) I am constantly attending special events and seminars to network with other people locally in the PR field.
Finally, I arrive at three questions:
1. Is there anything else that I should be doing?
2. I have collected a slew of business cards throughout the year and I always note on the back how, when, and where we met and a mutual contact if applicable. Would it be wrong for me to contact these individuals via email and re-introduce myself to them and attach a resume?
3. I already make 36K in my position as a dispatcher. I am having GREAT difficulty finding a PR entry level that pays anything.
