I'm a junior at Davidson College, a small liberal arts school in N.C., and hoping to get into PR when I graduate next year. Since our school doesn't offer any kind of communications/PR major or even any PR classes, will my liberal arts education be a help or a hindrance as I try to break into this field. I know I am a good writer, a level-headed organizer, and good with personal contacts, but what will potential employers think when they see a liberal arts education on my resume?
Thanks for any advice you could give. |

I don't think that your degree matters that much. It's the skills that you have acquired through your classes and internship experiences that come first. I also went to a small libral arts college. Although I majored in English, after graduation landed a great job as a marketing associate at a major consumer goods company. I later moved into a fabulous position their public affairs and communicatons department. I attribute my success to my natural skills and abilities as opposed to what it actually says on my degree.
