I am considering graduate program in taxation, and wonder how much recruiters (big 4)care about the school's reputation/ranking. Does it matter a lot or a master's degree is a master's degree?

Competition is stiff these days (as I'm sure you know), and any edge you can get is helpful. An MBT is surely better looking if it has a reputable school granting it, but it doesn't compare to a JD or MBA as far as school prestige is concerned.
What will help you is this: If the school you want to go to has sent a number of graduates to, let's say, Deloitte (ahh...the power of advertising banners), Deloitte will most likely be more willing to give preference to that particular school. It is easier if you go to a school that has a pipeline directly to the employer you desire. Some firms will host more recruiting events with particular schools, some schools have extensive career guidance counselors to help you get the job.
These are the factors I would look at...after all, the goal is to get a rock solid job.
Best of luck.
