Ex,
Could you give me concrete sense of nasty shape. For example, you firm doesn't have a plan to recruit for the next three months or half a year?
CMA Canada is close to MBA program. We don't have four levels exam. Only two parts of exam (over three days). The first part is multiple choices crossing 11 sujects. The second part is a managnemet report.
As for CFM, I am not sure about that. I assume it is close to finance? If that is case, I won't be afraid of it.
But the strategic thinking is the most important for our career. We should position ourself for the future. I have to review my plan right now. |

Well, I can see there's a difference between US CMA exam and Canadian one. We have four parts in US CMA Exam.:(
The second part can be waived though provided you passed CPA exam.
Plus there's experience requirements on top of all.
I have to admit that the third part is kind of painful. The reason - too many technical calculations, and the time simply escapes rapidly during non-stop calcs in front of the monitor. In this situation I like CPA exam when you have a textbook in front of you, and do all the calculations right in it. :)
Regarding the hiring - you see the situation - US world policy is kind of at stake, Iraq headache, etc. Everybody is waiting for something.
The recession has not been reversed yet. That's for sure.
There're a lot of companies that go bankrupt in America now. Result - extra pressure on the crappy crappy job market, I think it's in the agony...........:(
Try to concentrate on the job search in the small CPA firm, GET LICENSED, then target MBA program.
That's the best program right now.
By the way, how many years of auditing experience do they require in Canada to get licensed as a CPA?
In CA the Board of accountancy requires at least two years, depending on your accounting credits.
Be tough, and strong.
A lot of guys suffer a lot right now, without job, income, clear future. The main idea here - keep moving, and upgrading your skills.
I myself CUT OFF all the candidates who simply dawdle and do nothing sitting at home without any upgrade to their skills/education. If you don't have a job, at least you must study!
That's my rule. May be you have different opinion.
:)
Good luck.
