Okay, so i was a finance major during undergrad, and now I'd like to become a CPA. Yesterday I pulled out my old transcript and it looks like I'm 15 credits short of qualifying for the 150 min. And I only took 12 hours of accounting as an undergrad, opting for way too many soft finance classes instead (BIG mistake).
So what are my options? I live in NYC, and I'm thinking about enrolling in Baruch's MS-Accountancy program. Does this program have a strong reputation at the Big 4???Although I'm not sure about it's academic street value, I do know that it's relatively cheap, and it'd qualify me for the CPA. However, does anyone have a better idea of where I could go (this can be anywhere, even a cheap community college in Texas!) Also, the reason I want to get the MS-degree and top out the 150 hours, is to qualify for the 1-year of experience waiver for students who earn a post-baccalaureate degree. Which leads me to my next question:
Does one year of I-banking qualify me for my CPA work experience quota??? On a quick sidenote, I was let go from the bank, and I'm not sure if I will be able to get a good recommendation. Will this hurt my CPA application standing???
Any and all advice will be greatly appreciated and quickly utilized (I need to enroll by Sept 1.
Thanks. |

I am on my last day in the BIg 4, left for a bank. But I would just take the classes. Its worth it. Its a liscence you will always have in your back pocket and will only grow in value b/c noone is studying accounting anymore...really, its scary.
Get the MS, or just take the extra classes, call NY State board (1-800-CPA Exam) and double check. Just do it, you wont regrett it.
