Message: I graduated 1.5 yrs ago with an actg degree (gpa 3.97) and took all parts of the cpa exam this past May. There's a good chance I passed all 4 parts, but I won't know until August. After graduating, I didn't look for actg work because I wanted to go to law school and become a tax atty. I didn't get in to l/s and after doing some serious soul-searching, I have decided not to reapply to l/s. Instead I plan to get my MBA (beginning in Sept) with a double option in Actg and Tax. Full time I can complete it by next fall. I have my heart set on working for Big 5 (4?). Should I: a) Start the MBA this fall and go through the recruiting process for the following year and hope the Big 5 firms will overlook my 1.5 yr gap? I'll have to be honest and tell them that I tried to get into l/s, but luckily I have an outstanding lor from the chairman of the actg dept. OR b) Take a job at a regional firm now and do my MBA part time over the next 3 to 4 years and hope that I'll be hired eventually at a big 5? Financially, it is no problem for me to be out of work another year. Most importantly is that I end up Big 5. Also, another strike I have against me is my age: 39. But I do have work experience as I had my own business for 13 years which I started from scratch. Thank you for any feedback!!
