In Reply To: Hi, I'm getting an LLM in tax from Boston University next year. Just wondering if anyone here knew much about the hiring practices of B5 of attorneys for their tax divisions. Seems much easier to get into B5 than a law firm? Am I mistaken?
Message: Be very careful about working for a B5. Other than E&Y, tax compliance (ie.e, tax return and related work) is the foundation of their tax practices. E&Y claims to separated compliance and consulting (i.e., research and planning. But aside from E&Y, none of the B5 do real consulting work for their big clients in NYC. So you will have 2 choices: pound out returns during tax season, of sell. Each of the B5 have corporate tax shelter groups. These are far and away the highest-paying tax positions in the B5. However, sales here is the key. Unless you sell, you fail. So think real hoard before you go to a B5. You will NOT get quality research and planning work. You WILL see the big $$$ go to those who sell corporate tax shelters.
