In most cities, $50k starting is a pretty decent salary, but it's crap for Manhattan since the cost of living is too high.
The Big 5 pays roughly the same amount for starting audit salaries in other cities. Of course,salaries in the rural locations are much lower. But pay is comparable in Chicago and Boston, even though living costs are lower.
You may have friends making around 90-110k starting, but ask them how many hours per week they put in. I've been in audit for 2.5 years and hardly ever work more than 40-45hrs/week.
If you're looking for money, then don't go to a big 5. Get into investment banking. You'll get treated like a piece of shit, but at least you'll have that six-figure job. |

where do you work? 40-45/wk is very comfortable. is that the standard in audit? do you need an accounting degree ? (i'm econ. from a top-tier school)
