I started in audit with a big 5 firm in Washington DC about 8 months ago. I began at 40,500 + 2,000. This is no where worth the amount of time I have put into the job. I have put in at least 300 hours of overtime in 8 months, you do the math. I worked 7 days a week during busy season, and mine as well be a banker pulling down 100k if you ask me.
And for everyones info, I am doing a hell of alot more than copying and checking invoices...maybe "its just you" started with the wrong firm or didn't have the aptitude as a staff.... |

You might feel underpaid for putting in long hours during busy season, but you have to factor in all of the experience and knowledge that you gain while working those hours. Your experience and the name that you are able to put on your resume is part of your compensation. And don't forget the fact that accountants have very little to do from June-August. While bankers stick around until 8-10pm everynight reguardless of if there is work to do.
