In Reply To: These salaries seem low to me. I am about to finish my JD from a top school and am looking at 100K to start at a corporate firm in Portland. I am interested in moving into International Tax with a Big 5. What opportunities are there for JDs? Should I work for a firm, gain some corporate experience and then move over? My goal is to work in Madrid or Paris and eventually be a CFO.
Message: JD's at big 5 firms don't practice law, that's why they call them JD's and not attornies. Because of this, they don't have nearly the responsibility/stress someone at a law firm would have. No way you will make even close to as much at a big 5 accounting firm as you would at a comparable law firm. It's a completely different job. Friends of mine are getting experience at big 5 firms for a few years and then plan on jumping ship into the tax department (if that's what they'd call it) of a law firm. I'm not a JD but I guess it is a substantial increase in pay.
