Big 4's are not the end-all/be-all... |

I am currently still in school and have been interviewing with some of the Big 4 firms but unfortunately have not received any offers to date. It looks like I will probably end up at a midsize firm. I was wondering how it would look on my resume-clearly not coming from the Big 4 mold and how this might affect me later on if/when I want to transition into private industry.
Specifically, the midsize firms I am looking at at this point are Weiser, McGladrey & Pullen, Amper, and JH Cohn. Can anyone tell me about your experiences at these firms, (at the associate level) and how I can possibly sell myself if I don't have the Big 4 experience on my resume?
Thanks for your help.

After working for a Big 4 firm for the past three years, I can assure you that while a lot of companies do look very favorably on Big 4 experience, it's not everything. My suggestion would be to make sure that you have solid skills that you develop during your time with the mid-size firms, make sure to be able to take a lot of responsibility on major projects, and move up the ladder in your firm. Then, when moving into the industry, just make sure to really highlight that you were able to have the same accounting/finance experience that would have been obtained at a Big 4, at your mid-size firm. As long as you clearly distinguish this in your resume/cover letter, you should have a much better shot at securing an interview...
