In Reply To: I am seeking advice... I am currently a staff accountant (< 1 year exp.) at a local CPA firm which specializes in municipal audits and compilations and reviews for small businesses. I am seeking advice from someone who started at a local firm and then transitioned to a national or Big 4 firm. How much value do larger firms give experience at smaller local firms and is their a best time to make a move?
Message: I have been working at a local firm doing audits of local governmental entities, and a specialized industry, for five years, and plan to take the cpa exam this winter, as I do not, yet, have my CPA. I have been working, essentially, in a senior/managerial position, with supervisory experience, as well. I would like to transition to a regional/national firm, and gain more experience in other industries, especially in public companies. What types of skills and experiences are the regional/national firms expecting a senior or manager to have, and what are the next developmental steps for someone in that position in a regional/national size firm?
