Message: I graduated from school six years ago and really haven't had to work since then and my circumstances were such that I really haven't had to work since then. Now my circumstances have changed, and I' m attempting to enter the professional work force. I have three degrees, all of which are relevant to a career in the Big 5: an undergraduate degree in accounting (high honors), an MBA with an emphasis on finance and a law degree heavily skewed toward code- and business-related classes. All are from Indiana University Bloomington. I am familiar with accounting concepts and have an understanding of spreadsheets and computers. Given the outstanding training the Big 5 are supposed to provide, the fact that I'm already familiar with the concepts, and my ability to learn quickly, I don't think the six year gap should be any huge detriment. I'm interested in the Big 5 because once you get past the first couple of years of compliance, they practice in most of the areas in which I'm interested: tax, mergers and acquisitions, corporate planning/consulting, personal financial planning/consulting. I enjoy the numbers aspect of the work, which is one reason I think the Big 5 would be a good fit. Also, working at the Big 5 would eliminate any possibility of me having to do litigation, an activity in which I have absolutely no desire to engage. I know the hours can be hell during some busy periods or on an emergency project, but I understand that other than at those times they are quite reasonable, especially when compared to a large law firm. Since I'm single and have no children, long or irregular hours are no problems nor is travel (although my cat, Trouble, does have a few objections to being left alone for more than an hour or two. On the other hand, I'm sure she'd also have a few objections to me not being able to afford to feed her.). I'd be particularly interested in positions in Charlotte, NC, Atlanta, GA, Nashville, TN or Cincinnati, OH. If anyone has any tips or knowledge of openings, please reply to this message. Also, if you know of anyone in those offices who might be interested, I'd appreciate it if you could refer them to this message. I'll be happy to provide a resume to anyone who's interested. Thanks.
