In Reply To: It may be too late for this, but I can't believe someone with your background is considering PwC - you could make a lot more money elsewhere. Regardless of the group, (TS, Valuations, etc) public accounting firms are still just that - public accounting firms - and you aren't going to have the types of bonus opportunities, etc. that someone with your experience and qualifications could easily find elsewhere. I would recommend that you definitely explore your other options. People leave PwC to do everything you've said you've done -- and I don't think they usually come back.
Message: For a number of reasons, I believe your perspective is quite shortsighted. First, we do not know the position rank for which the poster is interviewing. PWC is known to give certain people, particularly specialists, a fast track to director or partner level. Believe it or not, most top-school MBA grads do not earn what a partner at PWC does. Second, we do not know the hedge fund the poster is leaving; there are hundreds of hedge funds, some far more profitable and prestigious than others. Third, we do not know what the poster??s final career destination will be. If his/her ultimate objective is to end up in corporate America, then Big4 experience on his/her resume will open far more doors than a hedge fund. Though I am not a big fan of PWC, I recognize that it is a very good employer, often cited among the best in the U.S. To dismiss it as just an accounting firm, when its profits are in the same league as those of many investment banks, is to exhibit a strong lack of objectivity as well as a certain amount of ignorance. The last time I checked, the ??accounting firms?? were offering consulting, transfer pricing and many other services, besides the usual audit and tax. They were hiring students with backgrounds ranging from economics to law to accounting to management, and many of them from strong MBA, law, and undergraduate programs. Finally, a number of individuals do return to the Big4, as a recent article from The Economist shows (below). If you have such little regard for Big4 firms, then steer clear of this site??s accounting boards. http://www.economist.com/research/articlesBySubject/displaystory.cfm?subjectid=348975&story_id=9507322
