I have two years of public accounting experience with a Big 4 accounting firm. Now, what industry kind of position can I get now. Every time I look at job listings it seems that there are only entry level accounting positions or senior accountant positions that require 3 to 5 years of experience. It seems that there is no happy medium for me. What type of position do most two year experience auditors go to? |

First let me say that if I were you, I would apply for the 3 to 5 years experience job openings. If the market for accountants is as lively in your area as it is for mine, you may have a real chance of getting one of those jobs.
Also, have you considered applying for internal auditor positions? Many times this is not only a good transitional position, but also a very good springboard into many different areas of a corporation.
My main advice would be to take a hard look at both what aspects of public accounting you enjoy and what aspects you hate. Once you have made this honest assessment, then apply only to those job openings that most closely meet the qualities you most desire. While someone who is self motivated can survive in almost any job, it is those who enjoy their work who naturally thrive.
