How's your 1st yr at Big Four and how it affected your life? Anyone wants to share? I know the long hours are for sure and i'm wondering how do you handle your work while you have family, or girl/boy friends, or other issues.

We have PWC as our auditors and I am very close with them, so here is what I know:
1. If you are a single individual, then it's OK, you can keep your BF/GF.
2. If you are married with a kid, that's where it gets tough. One very talented senior left after having a baby because she just could not bear being away from her, even though PWC did everything they could to accomodate her. I think it was her own view of herself, she was used to being a high achiever and now that she had a baby, she felt that it has to be all or nothing.
3. But, despite the long hours, I see that there is a true comaraderie among the peers. They feel like a college team on an important project. I actually talked to one of the guy's on that team about coming aboard and he was like: "Look, I know your department is dynamic, but I feel there still is a lot to learn" I was basically offering him a 40 hour workweek, a huge pay increase and he turned it down
