In Reply To: ...you just want the prestige of Big 4 on your resume. And rightly so. So if you just want that bullet on your resume and then to move on, you're just going to have to suck it up and put up with the bullsh*t for 2 busy seasons...which is really only 1.5 years if you start in the fall. It's just going to suck and that's all there is to it. Then eventually your 1.5 year sentence will end and you can move on to a bigger paying, much easier job in industry. To minimize the suckiness of your time at the Big 4, I suggest just setting boundaries. You'll probably work under lots of different seniors. You don't have to please every one...just 3 or so to get some decent references. You can get away with being a lot less of a self-sacrificing sheep than the majority of your coworkers, because they just need bodies and you know you're on the way out to brighter horizons. So for instance when you're at a client during busy season and you've done your 11 hours and there's nothing left for you to do that day and your senior is still hanging around doing god knows what...get up and go home! The prevailing culture is to wait til the whole engagement team is ready to go, but f that. So: Just do 1.5 years, only give the minimum required to keep the job, do decent-enough work to get about 3 references, and then move on to a job that pays 25+% more at 40 hrs/week. They are in abundance for those with 2 busy seasons at Big 4.
Message: Thanks for the shortcut. Yes, the reason I want to go Big4 is only for the prestige and Big 4 know that, so they work each person to the bone. How do u set a boundary without offending the seniors and coworkers that u are supposed to have a good relationship with. Sucking up to the seniors and get references is a shortcut, but how do u do "limited" work and still have "decent" reputation? if u don't suck up other staff and u may end up getting no help from peers someday. i don't know how to balance the interests. and i may have to suck them too and stay with the team whenever everyone is done, even as a lowest level, i may still have things to do, ex buy lunch, copy, order pizza, things like that i think
