a CPA is completely different from the CFA. You need to figure out if you really like Accounting and want to do it before you go down the "long road" of taking all the classes, taking and passing 4 difficult exams, and working for one year under someone who is a CPA.
Your motivation for getting a CPA is that you'll be advantaged in a job search? You won't be able to get the CPA until you've already got an acct. job, and worked at it for a minimum of one year.
If you do like Accounting, then I suggest you to take an industry job to try it out. Work hard and take the required classes from UofPhoenix or something. Pass the exams, get the CPA and network your way into Big4. |

No, I'm not saying I'll be a CPA right off the bat but some documented accounting coursework or training will definitely help my job search. From my research, accounting is a very desireable hard skill these days among employers. There are many jobs I can't do because I don't have accounting.
I'm undecided on CPA or CFA. Since CFA puts lot of emphasis on accounting and one will struggle without good accounting knowledge, I may as well kill two birds with one stone by taking some accounting classes here and there to see what it's like and then decide whether I want to do CPA or CFA.
My main concern is does it look bad on my resume if I have to take these classes from a community college, U of Phoenix or some 3rd tier school? Thanks!
