I am going to several recruiting events for accounting firms (office tours, dinner, info sessions), and I wanted to know what to expect, how to make a good impression, etc. I have applied for positions at these firms and I'm waiting to see if I am selected for interviews. |

being upbeat and a good conversationalist, but don't talk too much. I start off by introducing myself. I then tell then what type of opportunity I am interested in. They tell me whether that is something I can pursue at their firm. I usually ask them if they enjoy working at .
There is no need to be nervous at these gatherings. It is not an interview. You are simply trying to find out what are the next steps in the application process. So make sure you find these things out. They might want a resume on the spot, or to go to their website and apply.
If you know someone(personally) at the firm already, say they recommended told you about the firm. They like it when you already know someone at the firm. Because a big reason for the interview process is to see whether you fit in. So it is good if they know that you already associate with people that work there.
My best advice is have business cards. They love that. I usually end with something like this, "It was nice talking to you . I know that is looking for great people, and my track record proves that I am." I then pass them my resume. "I also want to give you one of my business cards, so you may have my contact information readily available." They will be so shocked that you have business cards, while they fumble for theirs.
Doing all these things that I mentioned helped me get an internship at Deloitte.
Good luck.
