In Reply To: not to be crass, but if you really want to be in accounting (public or otherwise), dont half-ass it. Don't get an online degree because its cheaper, dont get an associates degree because it is easier or will cost less or it is close to home. Legitimate firms will not look highly upon associates degrees or online degrees. Suck it and go to a 4 year university, and then complete your masters. You will have plenty of good job offers upon the completion of your studies. You will be qualified to work in public or private, or even pursuit something altogether different. And please dont use money as an excuse. Public universities are dirt cheap and big firms recruit there. Plus ANYONE can get mountains of financial aid in the way of grants and loans. So please, do yourself a favor, and pursue your career in accounting, but do it in the way that will be most beneficial to you and be most conducive to acheiving your objectives.
Message: Hi there I am finishing my degree online from an accredited school and let me tell you ... it is more expensive and more difficult than University of Michigan ( which I attended previously). I have done research papers for two tax classes that U of M did not even teach - so you are wrong about the online schools part!! In addition, I have started a job with a public accounting firm (large from Mid-West) and they did not think any less of this school. I switched jobs to a smaller CPA firm since I like it better -and still they did not think any less of the school I attend. So, sorry, but you were incorrect again about that.
