I did my BBA in Information Systems and I have been working as a computer programmer/analyst in a
Property-Casualty insurance company for the past 4 years.
I have come to realize that I don't want to be doing hardcore programming all my life. I want to move into a business field especially Accounting and/or Finance. While in my undergrad I had to take a few courses in these and enjoyed the subject matter.
I would like your expert opinion about the following:
I had taken basic accounting courses in my Undergrad so I'm not aware of the various avenues in Accouting.
1. What are all of the sub-fields under Accounting that I could potentially specialize in?
2. Are there any sub-fields/job prospects in Accounting where I can use my I.T./Insurance experience?
3. Any sub-fields in Accounting where I can be exposed to Finance?
4. What are some of the typical Accounting jobs?
5. What professional degrees/certifications would you recommend in my case as someone making a brand new start in Accounting?
6. What would you recommend as the next step to making this transition into Accounting? Should I pursue a second Bachelors in Accouting, Masters in Accouting or some other option?

I too am considering a career moving from being a technical sales engineer, to the financial world. With 3 years of 100% commision sales experience for the largest company in my field, I have had more sales experience then most at my age. I was hoping that this sales experience along with an engineering degree could open the door for me into the financial world. Right now I am trying to find the best position to apply for but don't know where I should focus my search. Any help would be appreciated
