In Reply To: Thank you for your reply. 1. How do I go about making this transition into Accouting? 2. Did you do a Masters in Accouting or get some sort of Certification in Accounting? 3. How did you go about making this shift in your career? 4. How did you specialize in Sox? 5. What are some of the skills required to be an IT-Auditor? What programming languages do you need to know if at all you need to know that? I would sincerely appreciate if you could answer the questions above so that I can get more insight into this. Since you've been in my situation before any tips or advice about making this career move from IT into IT-Auditing. Thanks much, Andy.
Message: 1) It is not really much of transition. The accounting firms are kind of desperate for people with general IT skills (if your degree is in MIS (where you had a basic business curriculum that certainly helps) 2) No I did not, but I had some other factors that may have helped 3) Like you, I wanted a more business focus instead of doing straight computer programming. So, I reached out to my friends at the Big 4 and they got my resume into the right hands. 4) Not really sure what you are asking, since my shift to IT auditing coincided with my move from programming. 5) Just a general knowledge of IT. It would be helpful if you were familiar with SAP, Oracle, JD Edwards, etc. ERP packages, but I did not have tht knowledge. But bascially being familiar with different Operating Systems, Network Admin stuff, just general IT stuff. You certainly will not be doing any programming so don't worry about that. Why don't you e-mail me at 3lbored@gmail.com? I can tell you a little more over e-mail.
