I passed CPA, CMA/CFM and CFA Level 1 exams. While taking those exams, I've never bought software or taken classes. It's up to you. As far as you studied hard in school and understand the accounting well, CPA exams will not be so difficult. Just keep focused and study hard. Then you will pass any kind of exams by yourself. |

No offense, but we humans usually need to be guided along!
Doing it without prep courses is doable, yeah. You're proof! But, why put yourself through the trauma?
I'm doing becker right now, and it's better than sliced bread. Top-notch stuff.
As for Bisk: thousands use it and pass. My impression from a "demo" version of Bisk is that it's not nearly as nice as Becker. A friend of mine who did Bisk gave it lukewarm reviews. He said if he had $1800 burning a hole in his pocket, he would have done Becker hands down.
If your work will reimburse you for it, and you have access to the funds, go with Becker. The future reimbursement is highly motivating :)
