In Reply To: I am going to be studying and taking the CPA exam this summer before I start with Deloitte in the fall. I have a couple of questions: - Are the Becker classes good? - What is the best order/way to take the CPA exam? (It appears that I will have to take the Financial and Regulation sections around the same time and then the Audit and Business sections the following month due to the way the classes fall.) - What is a reasonable amount of time to study for each section of the exam? I appreciate anyone's input to these questions or CPA exam/review tips in general. Thanks!
Message: I'm currently enrolled in the Becker CPA prep course. I HIGHLY recommend it! I absolutely love it. Awesome materials and support. One tip: I was planning on doing the course on CD-Rom. But, if you do the course ONLINE, you get EVERYTHING that you'll get with the CD-ROM course, AND access to their online class (i.e., books, Passmaster software, 26 CDs, online portal account, instructor, classmates). The online class is REALLY nice. The software and technology are excellent. With online, you'll have a schedule, a group of other students that are in your course, and an actual instructor, who you can communicate with freely. My instructor has been very reachable. He often posts discussion topics on the class message board. It's like a little support community. I checked out Bisk, since EY offers it with no up-front cost to newhires. Although I didn't register, I did take a "tour", and felt it wasn't as high quality. But, that's just my opinion. I talked with an EY friend who took it, and he said he felt like he was fighting the software, and it wasn't that intuitive at first, but he picked up on it. On the other hand, Becker's stuff has been completely user friendly so far, and I feel really confident that I'm getting the best prep possible. I went ahead and got the flashcards too. The box is HUGE! If you like to study with flashcards, do yourself a favor and pay the extra money for them -- they actually sell for more on eBay than if you buy them with the courses. As for order: If you're still in school, look to see how they line up with your classes. Generally, I think FARE is best to take first, since it's the foundation (concepts) for other sections. Don't forget! If you like the "idea" of the course on CD-Rom, then definitely go with the online version. It's CD-ROM plus tons more!
