I am a 30 year old banker and am making $60K+. I am also a CPA (recently passed exam) and was offered a tax position with Big 4 making $45K to start.
With the bank..I can expect 5% raises or so.
I know that is a big salary cut..but would it be worth it in long haul?? It seems tax job would be much much more valuable ..experience wise...and a better career track..
Any one else switched careers so late in life???
Thanks for insight!!

Would suggest that you stay put in banking. I'm also with a Big 4, and could not recommend the transition that I made at a similar age to your own (and slightly lower salary). Depending on your state, there's the audit requirement as well. Where I am, the money seems to be made once you get back out to the private sector. Not sure if you had to have audit experience, but I did- assuming you do as well. I believe that all Big 4 are being hit with reduced revenues from their tax side after SOX, and can't see it getting better soon.
